This course builds on GCSE Mathematics and introduces calculus and its applications. It emphasises interconnected mathematical ideas and their use in modelling situations with algebra, helping you understand data, the physical world, and problems in contexts such as social sciences and business.

Designed for high-achieving students, it assesses advanced algebraic reasoning in depth, providing stretch and challenge to prepare learners for further study. As an additional qualification alongside GCSE Mathematics, it includes a statistics module focused on interpreting real-world data.

Entry requires a taster session and meeting specific criteria, with limited places reserved for students excelling in mathematics. You will also use Excel for tasks as part of the course.

The course is assessed through two written exams at the end of the two-year programme:

Paper 1: Non-calculator - 1 hour 45 minutes, 80 marks (50% of the qualification).

Paper 2: Calculator - 1 hour 45 minutes, 80 marks (50% of the qualification).

Both papers include a mix of short, single-mark questions and multi-step problems, with mathematical demand increasing as you progress. Content from any part of the specification may appear on either paper.

To enrol, you must complete a taster session and meet the entry criteria.
